Online Texas Holdem Game Summary

Basically, Online Texas Holdem is a form of poker in which each player is dealt two cards face down, called hole cards, after which the player may use none, one, or both of his hole cards, in combination with five board cards or community cards dealt face up, to make the best possible five-card hand. All of the community cards are cards dealt face up in the middle of the table and their rankings are shared by all the participants.

Online Texas Holdem Poker Betting Structure Rules

In a Online Texas Holdem game, there are four possible betting rounds, and the general structure at each cardroom doesn’t differ from that of a brick and mortar ones. Each bet and raise during the first two rounds is set at the lower limit of the stakes structure, so for example in a $10/$20 Online Texas Holdem game, all bets and raises are $10 for the first two rounds (after pocket cards are dealt and after the flop). On the other hand, betting and raising during the last two rounds is set at the higher limit of the stakes structure, so at the same Texas Holdem example - all bets and raises are $20 for the last two rounds (after the turn and after the river), following accepted poker rules. The maximum allowable number of bets per Online Texas Holdem player during any betting round is four, and this includes a bet, a raise, a re-raise, and a cap.

Button and Blinds in Online Texas Holdem

In each Online Texas Holdem game, a flat disk is used at the poker table, which is called the dealer-button to indicate the theoretical dealer of each hand. After each hand has completed, as with standard poker rules, the button moves clockwise to the next active player, and this player will be considered to be playing “the button” for that hand. In Online Texas Holdem the player to the left of the button is first to receive a card and is required to post a small blind, which is equal to half the lower limit bet rounded down to the nearest dollar, and the player to the left of the small blind is required to post the big blind, equal to the lower limit bet. As you see, these poker blind structure rules for Online Texas Holdem are the same as found in land-based cardrooms. Both blinds in Online Texas Holdem poker are considered live bets and therefore, according to poker rules, have the option of checking, calling, raising or folding when the betting action returns to their position, and after the flop and each subsequent betting round, the first active Online Texas Holdem player left of the button is first to act. All players have the option of sitting out and waiting for the actual big blind before starting to play Online Texas Holdem poker, and by preventing players from constantly entering poker games in late position and leaving before they’re required to post, these rules stop potential abuse of the online environment.
